Geomechanics Around the World – Series 2
Geomechanics in HPHT and High-Angle HPHT Well Development
Introduction
High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) wells pose special geomechanical challenges when compared to conventional wells, and even more so in High Angle HPHT (HA-HPHT) wells (Figure 1). These challenges are significant as HPHT wells are usually located in offshore and deepwater environments. Unanticipated incidents can drive the cost of the well significantly higher, result in abandonment of the well, or be the cause of a significant environmental incident. The deeper the water, the more difficult these issues can become. (more…)
All the Pump, All the Rotary, All the Time Is Not Always the Answer
Welcome to the first edition of HXR’s Newsletter! In the coming months, we’ll be addressing issues that we all encounter on our drilling projects, and we hope we can share some insights that may help improve operations. We’d appreciate your feedback, and if we can establish a dialogue between engineers and geoscience professionals then we’ve achieved our goal.
